Clarinex is an antihistamine that helps relieve the symptoms of common seasonal allergies and household allergies. Clarinex may also help treat hives or rashes. Doctors and pharmacists can help you if you have questions about your allergy symptoms, which can develop from exposure to common indoor occurrences such as dust, mold and pet dander. Common outdoor allergies include pollen, grasses, trees and weeds.
Clarinex was proven in clinical studies to help reduce symptoms associated with allergies. The medication helps alleviate sneezing, runny nose, itchy and watering eyes, etc. Many antihistamines work similarly. However, Clarinex is different than Allegra because it can be taken with fruit juice and antacids, which may make Allegra less effective. Both medications are designed to be effective without causing drowsiness.
Pregnant women and nursing mothers should speak with their doctors before taking Clarinex as the active ingredient is excreted in breast milk. Patients should not increase dosages or frequency of dosages, as this has not been proven effective and may cause drowsiness.
Always take Clarinex exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The typical recommended dose for Clarinex tablets, however, is one 5mg pill once daily. Clarinex may be taken with or without a meal, and unlike Allegra, the effectiveness of Clarinex is not affected if taken with fruit juice. Although those who have mild to moderate asthma can generally take Clarinex, consult with your doctor if you have asthma.
Side effects with Clarinex are typically mild. Those side effects experienced during clinical trials were similar to those experienced by patients who received placebo. The following side effects occurred in between two percent and four percent of patients: sore throat, dry mouth, muscle pain, fatigue, drowsiness, painful menstruation.
