Condylox - An Effective Treatment for Genital Warts

What Is Condylox & How Does It Work?

It is estimated that at least 24 million Americans have contracted genital or perianal warts. If you are among them, Condylox is proven to help decrease and even eliminate these warts, which are associated with HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). Condylox (podofilox is the drug name) is a powerful topical gel that is typically prescribed for a treatment period of 3 to 4 weeks. Although it is not known precisely how Condylox actually works, its active ingredients were shown in clinical studies to be very effective in treating genital and perianal warts. Included among the high percentage of those who experienced positive results with Condylox were the 30 percent of patients who experienced complete clearing of their wart tissue.

Condylox Precautions

Always consult with your doctor before you begin any new prescription medication. Additional topical medications should not be used at the same time as Condylox, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. Use Condylox only as directed, and avoid sexual contact during periods of treatment. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application of the product. Report any side effects to your doctor. Condylox should not be used for more than four consecutive weeks unless prescribed by your physician. Women who are pregnant or nursing should make their doctors aware of this before beginning treatment. Make your doctor aware of all drugs and supplements you are currently taking in order to avoid interactions.

How to Use Condylox

Use Condylox exactly as directed by your doctor. Generally this medicine is prescribed to be applied twice daily for three consecutive days, and then discontinued for the next four days. This weekly treatment cycle is typically repeated for up to four weeks until there is no visible wart tissue. The gel may be applied either with the applicator or the fingertip. Thoroughly wash your hands before and after applying Condylox, and allow the gel to dry before allowing the return of opposing skin surfaces to their normal positions. If desired results are not accomplished, your doctor will most likely discontinue treatment with Condylox because safety and effectiveness have not been established for more than four treatment cycles. Do not use more than 0.5 grams of the gel per day because results will not be better, and the chance for more/severe side effects increases. Condylox is intended for external use only.

Condylox Side Effects

As with all topical prescription medications, there are some side effects that may occur with Condylox. About 90 percent of occurrences are mild to moderate and involve skin irritation. The most common side effects include: inflammation, burning, erosion, pain, itching, bleeding and stinging. Inform your doctor of any adverse reactions to Condylox and stop taking the medication if you experience severe side effects.

In very rare cases, a serious and potentially dangerous allergic reaction could occur. This may include: swelling of the tongue, face or lips; shortness of breath; breakout of hives. If you experience any of these potentially serious allergic reactions, stop taking Condylox and seek medical assistance immediately.
