Flonase - Relieve Nasal Allergy Symptoms

What Is Flonase & How Does It Work?

Flonase is an anti-inflammatory nasal spray. Flonase, which does not cause drowsiness, treats the nasal symptoms of indoor and outdoor allergies, as well as year-round non-allergic nasal symptoms. Flonase was proven in clinical studies to help reduce the inflammation that leads to nasal symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and itchy, runny nose. Flonase is not inherently habit forming, and should be used specifically as prescribed by your doctor.

Flonase Precautions

Before you take Flonase, it is important for you to tell your doctor about any and all medications you are currently taking. If you have been taking an oral steroid for a long time, and have switched to an intranasal steroid such as Flonase, care must be taken. While adjusting to the switch, the body can't heal as quickly after surgery, infection or serious injury. Also, if you switched from an oral steroid to an intranasal steroid, other medical conditions may get worse (asthma, eczema, arthritis, etc.). Patients who use Flonase or any topical treatment of the nasal cavity for several months or longer should visit their doctor to check for possible changes in the nasal mucosa. Nasal and inhaled corticosteroids have been associated with glaucoma and cataracts. These medications should not be used in excessive doses for this reason. If you have these conditions, speak with your doctor before using Flonase. If you experience a change in vision, speak with your doctor urgently.

How to Take Flonase

Use Flonase exactly as prescribed by your doctor. To get the best results, Flonase should be used on a regular schedule. Generally speaking, once treatment is started, Flonase should be used once a day, every day. While nasal symptoms may begin to improve within 12 hours, maximum relief may take several days. Flonase can provide relief from nasal symptoms for a full 24 hours. Do not deviate from using Flonase as directed. Do not overuse Nasonex because this may cause or worsen certain side effects that would not otherwise be experienced if used as prescribed. Patients should not spray Flonase into the eyes or directly onto the nasal septum.

Flonase Side Effects

Flonase is well-tolerated, which means that people who take Flonase experience a low incidence of side effects. Any side effects that do occur are usually mild. These may include headache, nosebleed or sore throat. Overuse of Flonase can cause or worsen side effects
