Xenical – Lose Weight Effectively

What Is Xenical & How Does It Work?

Xenical is a prescription medication that is taken orally to help eliminate unwanted body fat. Xenical leads to healthy weight loss over time because it encourages your body to activate its own fat centers by preventing up to 33% of the fat you eat from being broken down/absorbed. Your digestive system contains enzymes called lipases that break down fat so that your body absorbs and processes it. Xenical attaches to lipases and prevents them from breaking down some of the fat you consume. This undigested fat is then eliminated during bowel movements.

Patients who used Xenical for one year with a low-calorie diet and moderate exercise lost more weight than those who dieted and exercised, but did not use Xenical. The control group (just diet and exercise) lost an average of six pounds during the one-year clinical trials, while those who took Xenical during their weight-loss program lost more than twice as much – about 13.5 pounds.

Xenical Precautions

Always consult with your doctor before beginning any weight-loss program or new medication. Xenical may not be the right weight loss medication for some people, including those who suffer from a chronic malabsorption syndrome, or those who suffer from gallbladder problems. Those who suffer from the following may not be able to take Xenical: diabetes, kidney stones, bulimia or anorexia. Also, patients who take drugs that contain cyclosporine, and women who are pregnant, may be pregnant or nursing, may not be able to take Xenical. Your doctor can tell you if Xenical is an appropriate weight-loss drug for you.

How to Take Xenical

Take all medications as specifically recommended by your doctor. It is typically recommended that one 120mg capsule of Xenical be taken orally with liquid during each of your three main meals, if they contain fat. Xenical can be taken for up to an hour after a meal. Xenical has proven to be most effective if taken three times daily with a reduced-calorie diet. Patients who take Xenical should plan their meals carefully so that no more than 30 percent of each meal’s total calories come from fat. Each day, the intake of fat, carbohydrates and protein should be divided evenly between three meals. If you miss a meal or consume a meal that does not contain fat, you may omit an occasional dose of Xenical.

Xenical Side Effects

Due to the type of medication that Xenical is, there are side effects that may be associated with it, including: diarrhea, oily discharge, gas with fecal discharge, fatty or oily stools, fecal urgency, incontinence, abdominal discomfort or pain, back pain, dizziness and anxiety. If you experience severe side effects, seek medical attention immediately. These occur much less frequently, and may include severe or persistent stomach pain. Rare allergic reactions include: rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, or swelling of the mouth, lips, face or tongue.
