Zyban - Stop Smoking For Good

What Is Zyban and How Does It Work

Zyban is a prescription medication that aids people who wish to stop smoking. Zyban reduces nicotine withdrawal symptoms in the brain, which in turn helps to curb the urge to smoke. A significant number of smokers (29%) were able to quit smoking with Zyban, which is a nicotine-free treatment.

Although the exact method of how Zyban works is unknown, it somehow boosts certain responsive chemicals in the brain that pacify the symptoms that cause nicotine withdrawal. Zyban (or bupropion hydrochloride, its active ingredient) is clinically proven to reduce the urge to smoke. Other factors, such as gaining a support network, are also important for those who try to stop smoking.

Zyban Precautions

It is important to always speak with your doctor to make sure they are aware of ANY and EVERY drug you currently take. This will help to avoid any interactions. Be sure to tell your doctor if you have ever experienced seizures, or if you have had suicidal thoughts. Women who are breast feeding, as well as anyone who is taking medications containing MAO inhibitors, or those who have recently been using, or have just stopped using alcohol, sedatives or tranquilizers may be told by their doctor not to take Zyban. You can find out whether Zyban is the right smoking cessation medication for you after speaking with your doctor.

How to Take Zyban

As with any prescription medication, follow your doctor’s exact instructions, and never share Zyban with anyone else. If you miss a dose, do not take two doses at once. Simply take your next dose at its regularly scheduled time. Zyban may be taken with other aids that help smokers quit, such as nicotine gum or patches. However, always let your doctor know if you intend to use any other smoking cessation product with Zyban.

Zyban Side Effects

There are certain side effects that could occur with Zyban. In most cases, the side effects are not severe, and they will go away after use of Zyban is discontinued. The most common side effects include dry mouth and sleepiness. In very rare instances, seizures have occurred in patients who take Zyban. If you experience a seizure while taking Zyban, seek medical attention immediately, and stop taking the medication. On rare occasions, medications such as Zyban may increase suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors. If you notice these, seek psychological or medical treatment immediately, and do not use Zyban again.
